Marketing Director

Monterey Jazz Festival

Under the direction of the Managing Director, the Marketing Director will provide overall leadership for the Marketing team and will also develop, manage, and measure all Monterey Jazz Festival marketing, public relations, and partnership programs.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1)  Provide annual and long-term development, planning, implementation, and supervision of marketing activities; align objectives with the Monterey Jazz Festival Strategic Plan and organizational goals.
2)  Formulate and manage the Marketing Department budget. Provide monthly reporting of departmental expenditures and revenues.
3)  Provide quantitative and qualitative analysis of market place and demographic trends, and measurement of all marketing activities in relation to the Monterey Jazz Festival Strategic Plan and organizational goals.
4)  Manage Marketing Department Staff including: the Marketing Associate, Contracted Graphic Designer, Contracted Web site Designer, Contracted Mobile Application Designer, and Marketing Department Volunteers.
5)  Oversee the creation and production of all marketing and publicity materials including brochures, direct mail, advertising, souvenir programs, Web site and mobile apps. Execute all media buys.
6)  Secure sponsorship for Monterey Jazz Festival productions and programming. Act as the organizational liaison with all sponsorship partners; oversee activation and fulfillment of all Agreements.
7)  Develop marketing strategies and campaigns that foster engagement with Monterey Jazz Festival across both existing and emerging audiences.
8)  In collaboration with the Managing Director and Artistic Director, formulate brand messaging. Ensure brand consistency across all organizational initiatives; connect sub-brands to the master brand.
9)  Act as a partner with the Development Director to generate contributed and earned revenues. Provide marketing information and data to further develop and grow the individual donor base and grant opportunities.
10)  Network and build promotional partnerships driving visibility for Monterey Jazz Festival; its productions, programs, and brand.
11)  Liaison with the Board of Directors Marketing and Sponsorship Committee; coordinate Committee meetings and Board involvement in marketing activities as directed by the Marketing and Sponsorship Committee Chair.
12)  Guide special projects as directed by the Managing Director.
 

REQUIREMENTS:

1)  Bachelor’s Degree.
2)  Minimum of 7 years’ marketing experience, preferably in the music, entertainment or event industry.
3)  Minimum of 2 years’ experience supervising marketing operations.
4)  Proficiency using office equipment (computers, Microsoft Office, copier/fax/scan, and phone systems).
5)  Strong interpersonal skills: communication, time-management, goal setting, priority management, critical decision making, attention to detail and mentoring.
6)  Ability to work irregular hours (weekends/evenings) and to travel domestically.
7)  Position is based at the Monterey Jazz Festival Corporate Office located in Monterey, CA.
